HELP SUPPORT THE U-520 ARCHAEOLOGIST DIVE

December 2005
Hello Michael:
I'm a marine archaeologist in Canada. This summer I will be looking for the wrecks of two WWII U-boats which were sunk off our east coast - the U-190 and the U-520. Both wrecks have never been found. We plan to dive the U-520. The U-190 is likely too deep for divers to access her. But, we will image her using a side-scan sonar unit. And, we'll be looking for the last vessel she sunk - the Esquimalt. It was the last Canadian warship sunk in WWII.
I'd like to place aboard the U-520 one of your battle flags - in memory of the crewmen who are still inside. See the attached photo. It's of the Captain of the U-190.

I'll need another flag - to use as part of a museum display about the expedition. This is being done in conjunction with the Underwater Archaeological Society of British Columbia.
I'm wondering if you'd care to donate the flags, in exchange for some p.r. I'd acknowledge where both came from. There will be a lot of news coverage about the expedition. It would be a good way to promote your website.
As I'm sure you can appreciate, mounting such an expedition is expensive. Perhaps you know of others who'd be interested in donating towards it. Arrangements could be made for significant donators to be aboard our research vessel when we dive the U-520.

Thanks for PzG's support and your donation. I'll keep in touch regarding the expedition - as it develops. As I said, if you know of others who are interested in German WWII history and who might want to participate, or sponsor, the expedition I'd be glad to talk with them. - Rob
