Hi again folks - thought you might enjoy this picture of Eberhard Pasternack, Knights Cross 22.9.1941 on the Russian front.
Best, Mike Pasternack
Eberhard Pasternack was born in Wiltschin, Germany (East Prussia) on 25 November 1914. He joined the German army in 1934 and was assigned to Infantry Regiment 2. He was promoted to sergeant in 1939 and served with IR 325. In the Russian campaign, he was platoon leader, company leader and battalion leader in IR 506, IR 505 and in Fuesilierregiment 27. As Oberleutnant d.R. and Chief of the 7. Company in IR 506, 291 Infantry division he was awarded Knights Cross on 22 September 1941 for distinguished service in the Baltics. On 31 May 1944, as Major d.R he was discharged from the army after sustaining heavy wounds in combat. Eberhard Pasternack was also the recipient of the Wound badge in Black and Silver, the General Assault Badge, the Iron Cross 2nd class and the Iron Cross 1st Class. After the war, he was an active member of the Knights Cross Association and active with veteran’s groups. He was also a gracious autograph-signer. He passed away on December 15,1996 in Brauneberg on the Mosel, taking his own life, as the wounds he sustained during World War Two never truly healed. His is but one story of the many who fought for what they believed in, and like all the others, must be recorded for history.
