The leaders of Nazi political districts (known as the Gauleiter) were empowered to bestow Gau Badges for a variety of services rendered to the local political organization. Such Gau Badges were issued in Silver and Gold with some issuances in Bronze. Very rarely were Gau Badges issued in Gold with Diamonds. These were civilian badges and not worn on military uniforms with the exception of the SS who were given permission to wear a mixture of civilian & military badges. Originally there were 33 Gaus and later 43 Gau Badges.The most "important" of these badges is the 1923 version in gold and silver. It marked the ill fated "Beer Hall Putsch" for which Hitler was jailed. Many Gauleiters also made a habit of issuing "Day Badges" or "Rally Badges" that are now referred to as 'tinnies'.

This badge was instituted in 1938 by Gauleiter Erich Koch. These badges came only in silver and was awarded to around 1000 folks. The badge shows the national eagle spreadwinged over the coat of arms of East Prussia.

The Gau Sudetenland badge was awarded for service to the Nazi Party. Gau Sudetenland was carved out of a portion of Czechoslovakia, after that nation was handed over to Germany in 1938. It was the Sudetenland, with its German-speaking population, which had provided Hitler with his pretext for taking control of Czechoslovakia. This badge features the state eagle and swastika in silver encircled by a gold oak wreath. Our high-quality reproduction is made of copper-nickel, and is fitted with a simple pin-back.

GAU582 - GAU (Wartheland) Posen Badge
The Gau Wartheland badge was awarded for service to the Nazi Party. Gau Wartheland was one of four districts that were established in Poland after the German invasion in 1939. The capital was Posen. The Gauleiter for Wartheland was SS Obergruppenfuhrer Arthur Greiser, who after the war was convicted of war crimes and hanged. This badge features the state eagle and swastika in silver encircled by a gold oak wreath. At the bottom is the 1939 institution date for the Gau. Our high-quality reproduction is made of copper-nickel, and is fitted with a simple pin-back.

The SS Gautag Munich Badge commemorates a major Nazi Party rally in Munich in 1938. During the Third Reich, Germany was divided into about 30 political districts. Each of these districts, known as a Gau, was administered by a Gauleiter. Gautag badges were sold at rallies to raise money for the Nazi Party. The badge features the famous Deutschland Erwache (Germany Awake) standard. Our high-quality reproduction is a hollow back, like the originals, and is fitted with a simple pin-back.
