Uniforms Belts and Buckles of the Third Reich 1935-1945

 

SS (Schutzstaffel) - the German "Protective Echelon" the black-uniformed elite corps of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) founded by Adolf Hitler in April 1925 as a small personal bodyguard. The two main groups were the Allgemein-SS (General-SS) and Waffen-SS (Armed SS). The Waffen-SS were made up of three subgroups: the Leibstandarte, Hitler's personal bodyguard; the Totenkopfverbande (SS-TV) or Death's Head Battalion, and the Verfuegungstruppen (Disposition Troops). An additional subdivisions of the SS included the Gestapo and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) who provided domestic and foreign intelligence. The Waffen-SS swelled to 39 divisions during World War II and served alongside the Heer (regular army) gaining a reputation as fanatical fighters.

 

Gestapo, abbreviation of Geheime Staatspolizei (German Secret State Police) the official secret police of Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe.

Details: two-piece, badge features SS motto “Meine Ehre heist Treue!” in silver lettering, with SS runes in white enamel on a black enamel background. The Totenkopf skull is done in high relief and is separately applied, making this a striking piece. Finished in antique silver plate, measuring 1-1/8” wide by 1-1/4” high, maker marked “Ges. Gesch.” and “RZM M13/42 SS”. safety-pin attachment.

Frontkjemper - Norwegian SS Front Fighters Badge - with safety pin back

 

History: The Norwegian "Frontkjemper" (Front-Fighter) badge was instituted in October 1943, and awarded for bravery to Waffen-SS Norwegian legionnaires who saw action on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945. The badge was made by the Oslo firm "Holmsen" and was issued in one class only, silver. The badge depicts a Nordic warrior holding a shield and drawn sword, and standing in an archway, which bore the lettering "FRONT KJEMPER"  (Front Fighter) in pseudo runic script. There are two types of Front-Fighters badges: 1) a silver version, high quality badge with sharp details. The early type badge has a twisted "M" in "frontkjeMper"; and 2) later these badges had the "M" shape into a normal look.

Description: Cap is stamped with SS serial number and SS runes. These brass containers protected the glass ampule of cyanide from unintended breakage. The user would unscrew the end cap take out the fragile ampule put it in their mouth and bite down and break the glass vial. The cyanide would act almost immediately and death would take place in seconds thereby saving the user from torture.
