Berlin 1936 Nazi Olympics
"Olympia - Beauty in the Olympic Struggle" by Leni Riefenstahl
"...Seldom has there been so much beauty combined with grace and strength as in those sixteen days of the Olympic Games in Nazi Berlin."
"Beauty in the Olympic Struggle - Everything was beautiful: the Olympic idea, the torch-bearer, the stadium - and the athletes. The rapture of Glenn Morris, the stride of Jesse Owens, the controlled power of our Karl Hein; the inward absorption, the near religious devotion of the Japanese; the looseness of the American athletes; and the men of iron - the Finns. When the Finns ground down the Japanese runner, Murakoso, in the ten thousand meters, when the Finnish team fused into a single entity and overtook the other runners, one by one, with uncanny rhythm, they became the most perfect symbol of mental as well as physical beauty."
The uniqueness of these pictures lies in the fact that never before had cameramen been allowed to work so close to the athletes. There were great struggles before the International Olympic Committee finally gave its permission. Even then, there were daily arguments with the competition judges. A downright war had to be fought in order to get the shots. But it was worth the fight!

Details: Approximate size: 1" x 1", Back Attachment = P (safety pin back)
In 1936 Nazi Germany was the host for the International Olympics. No expense was spared for the games. Hitler comissioned Leni Riefenstahl to film the games and create a living testament to the Olympic games of Berlin and Germany's international good will. Using all of her talent and previous experiences to good use Leni was able to produce a film of beauty and grace using artistic talent that would put her head and shoulders aboove all film makers. Todays sports filming is based on the ground greaking inovations that Leni and her crews developed and invented. Olympia's politacal statement has been conviently forgotten. While the victors of WWII hatefully proclaim that Jesse Owens destroyed the myth of Aryan superiority it was the Nazis who treated him and everyone on his team with the utmost respect. Far more in fact than he ever received back home in the USA! The student of National Socialism must study this film to really see how the races of the world were to work and live together in mutual respect and harmony. Surprisingly the USA is championed constantly in the film including their Black athletes!
Details: Olympia comes in 2 parts, both B/W, English subtitles.
