The German Luftwaffe entered the Second World War with the world's most effective bomber force, built around the Heinkel He-111 and Dornier DO-17 medium bombers, and the new Junkers JU-88 "Schnellbomber".
From its outset, the new Luftwaffe was planned as a tactical instrument designed to provide air aupport to the Army in what was assumed would be a short war.
In this program, which covers combat operations from North Africa through to Northern Norway, and the Atlantic approaches to the Battle of Stalingrad, the role of the Luftwaffe's bombing in the period of Germany's military expansion between 1939 and 1942 is told employing dramatic and graphic footage.
