German Military March Music
Nazi Songs Third Reich Music Adolf Hitler
Since the dawn of organized armies men have been led into bloody battle by heroic martial music - and soothed their lonely spirits with sweet songs of their loved ones by the campfire.
No where was this more true than Nazi Germany under National Socialism. Dr. Goebbel's ministry of nazi propaganda encouraged the writing and production of many of the most rousing and heroic military songs and marches in history; yet the battle-hardened soldiers' softer side was not ignored.
Lili Marlene was not just a favorite German Nazi soldier love song but became the favorite of American GI's and British Tommies as well! We invite you to share that moment in history just as the German soldier or civilian did - whether on the frozen hell of the endless steppes - or in a bomb shelter, where the sound of the encouraging music calmed their racing heart and gave new strength to flagging morale to carry on the fight.

HISTORICAL DETAILS
Herman Mueller-John - The Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, was under the direction of Hauptstrumfuhrer Herman Mueller-John. Herman Mueller-John was more a soldier than a musician and during the First World War was awarded the Iron Cross First Class. He never went to Militarkapellmeister alter Schule (Orchestra Conductor School), instead he studied music on his own which came to him easily. One could say that he was a natural for music. He conducted one of the most famous military bands in recent German history and played at every important state function and most military parades. Hitler even granted to him his wish in that talented youth would receive a free scholarship to the university to study music, this lasted until 1945. Herman Mueller-John and Glen Miller were the two most listened to bands prior to and at the beginning of WW II. The Leibstandarte Musik Korps even had a swing band that played the "Hottest Tunes" of the 1930s and 40's to compete with Glen Miller. Unfortunately as the war progressed further into the mid 1940s the Leibstandarte Musik Korps were needed less and less in order to fight the war on two fronts. Most band members lost their lives and this included Herman Mueller-John who committed suicide at the end of the war. The Leibstandarte was the most noticeable military band in German history. Most of the original recordings are in private collections and many were destroyed during the war. This CD brings out some of the most popular songs and musical recording performed by the Leibstandarte Musikkorps. One of the more unusual recordings is the second part of Von Finnland bis zum which was composed during the Russo-Finnish war. Most other recordings will only have part one. Another recording that is very rare is the, Alte Kameraden in its vocal version, which is not on modern recordings of today. It was written by Carl Teike, a band leader and composing policeman himself. Born in 1864 he died in 1922. His works were finally recognized in the 1930's in Germany and the rest of the world. Treu um Treue is another one of his works. The Leibstandarte Marsch composed by Herman Mueller-John himself is the true marsch of the Leibstandare SS Adolf Hither and not the Bandenweiler Marsch. The Bandenweiler Marsch was composed by George Furst in 1914 for the Bavarian Medicalkorps. This march was adopted by Adolf Hitler for his personal entrance at his speeches and appearances. It was given to the Leibstandarte as their march only when Hitler was present. Another version of Die Fahne hoch (Horst Wessel Lied), is on this recording in a march version with a military command. Most of the time the Horst Wessel Lied is sung in a chorus so this is very unusual.
