BK090 -SS Panzergrenadier by Hans Schmidt
"a true story of World War II"
Hans Schmidt, at war's end was a twice wounded, 18 year old corporal in Hitler's famed SS-Leibstandarte Panzer division, and a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. In this book he tells his story with an uncanny frankness. He does not shy away from such sensitive subjects as the "Malmedy Massacre" or the destruction of the French village of Oradour sur Glane by SS troops. Historians and veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and World War II will be interested in knowing what their counterparts in this momentous campaign thought of them and how they lived and felt in that cold winter in the Ardennes so long ago!
"Once I started reading I couldn't stop and that was the second time I read this fascinating book!" Michael Kelly, Presidents of PzG Inc.

Customer Comments:
I received my full order awhile back and I want to thank you for the gift of the neat German calendar! Upon placing my order you asked me to give you a few comments upon my completion of SS Panzergrenadier by Hans Schmidt. Not only was it very well written and held my attention from beginning to end, but Hans pulled no punches as to his dedication and defense of the Waffen SS and his exacting training and participation. As a young 17/18 year old he was right in the midst of the fighting and it really is a wonder that he made it to the end of the war when so many of his young comrads lost their lives for their country. It is shamefull how Eisenhower let the German prisoners suffer and so many died needlessly after our victory and Hans was rightly bitter about this fact. My own research reveals that the Germans treated the American prisoners as well as the other Western allies fairly and according to the Genevia Convention, and we certainly treated the Japanese prisoners much better. Eisenhowers stated "hatred" of the Germans certainly manifested much misery and many needless deaths. My only real critical comments are that Hans should have told us readers his reasons for coming to America in 1949 and as to what happened to his siblings. Hans is right that Germany today is very restrictive and undemocratic when it comes to freedom of speech. I guess it is allowed only for the Left. --- I would like to see you carry more of his books. Also how did you get Hans to personally autograph your copies!? Very nice gesture! Keep up the good work! Allan
Thank you for the book( SS Panzergrenadier) which arrived yesterday: It is as excellent as I expected and most interesting to read, lots of things I wanted to know or to have confirmed. As you know I have ordered a second one: "Hitler's boys". I would like to read everything Mr. Schmidt has written in English and which is available, if you can let me know what else there is? Thank you again for this excellent book! - Renée
