INTRODUCTION: After years of research, noted armor expert Wolfgang Schneider has produced a comprehensive unit history of the "Tiger" Company of SS-Pan zer-Grenadier-Division "Das Reich" and its successor formation - schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 102, which was later redesignated as schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 502.
Bolstered by numerous first-hand accounts of former members of the company and battalion, maps and photographs, the path of this famous "Tiger" element has been presented in a detailed fashion. The book also features exhaustive appendices listing camouflage, markings, tank commanders, duty positions throughout the battalion, every existing monthly status report and a sampling of award recommendation.
Among other aspects of its history, the fighting aroud Kharkov, during Operation "Zitadelle", at Normandy, on the Oder and at the Halbe Pocket in the final days of the war, are chronicled for the reader. This is an exceptional unit history.
The author was also responsible for the highly regarded Tigers in Combat 1 and 2 and Panzertaktik.
