The name Kummersdorf is inextricably linked with a wide variety of German weapons, vehicles and equipment. Kummersdorf was involved in every stage of military technical development: research, development, testing and the mass employment of military technology. The 420mm "Big Bertha" howitzer was tested there before World War I, the Army Ordnance Office put the first modern anti-tank gun, the 37m pak L/45, through rigorous testing there, and it was at Kummersdorf that the first experiments with solid and liquid fuel rockets was carried out. Years later the products of this work entered service with the German army as the Nebelwerfer rocket-launcher and the V-2 strategic rocket. It was also at Kummersdorf that the first tanks, disguised as agricultural tractors, were tested, followed by the Panzers III and IV, the Panther, Tiger, Maus and others, The list of weapons and equipment tested at Kummersdorf goes on and on: Goliath, Raupenschlepper Ost, Volkswagen, army field railways, howitzers and cannon, wagons and field kitchens, mines and many other munitions.
